Switch 2 set to make Summer Games Done Quick debut

Summer Games Done Quick is back for its annual speedrunning event, and this year, the Nintendo Switch 2 will make its GDQ debut with Mario Kart World.

Summer Games Done Quick 2025 will kick off the pre-show at 12:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 6, before officially opening up with a Sonic the Hedgehog speedrun at 1 p.m. EDT, played by content creator SuperSonic. Mario Kart World is featured as a bonus game at the event, appearing at the end of the GDQ marathon on Saturday, July 12 at 8:55 p.m. EDT, with content creator Peas playing the game’s Knockout Tour mode.

Nintendo is well-represented at this year’s event, with games like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Pokémon Sword & Shield, Tetris 99, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Paint, Super Mario Maker 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario 64 set to be given the speedrun treatment.

And of course, there are tons of other non-Nintendo games appearing at the event set for silly runs, completed runs, co-ops, and speedrun races. These games include Balatro, an “All Emeralds Glitched” run of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Celeste, Monster Hunter Wilds, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a “Critical Lvl 1 Character Choice Any%” Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix HD race, “European Extreme” run of the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater PC port, Avowed, and Banjo-Kazooie.

Summer Games Done Quick 2025 is a fundraising event. Much like years past, the 2025 iteration of SGDQ will raise money for Doctors Without Borders, an international, non-governmental humanitarian organization that provides emergency medical services to those affected by famine, war, disease, and natural disasters. DWB also offers assistance “based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation,” per the organization’s official website.

Summer Games Done Quick 2025 is scheduled to run July 6-13. Those interested can watch the event on the GDQ Twitch channel.
